Celebrating 26 years in the Rogue Valley
Stillpoint Dance Studio presents:

The Nutcracker Ballet

Artistic Director: Penny King

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker has become an integral part of the Christmas season all around the globe. Each year, the magic of the dancing—delicate beauty, powerful athleticism, whimsical charm—combines with the classic strains of Tchaikovsky’s music to beckon young and old alike to the theater for an evening of adventure, mystery, and sugar plum dreams. This year, in its 26th annual production of The Nutcracker Ballet, Grants Pass’ own Stillpoint Dance Studio and the creative team of Penny King, Sylvia Bolton, Jocelyn Vodovoz-Schmidt, and Erica Bury bring us an exciting new vision that includes fresh choreography alongside familiar scenes, new characters joining old favorites, and a strength of storytelling that will transport audiences to a world of grand parties, thrilling battles, and wonder-filled fantasies. This is a community production in the truest sense. The cast brings together the best dancers from several studios in the Rogue Valley, including Stillpoint Dance Studio and Heartland Dance Studio in Grants Pass and Fusion Dance Academy in Medford, as well as beloved local actors and personalities. This year’s stars include Abigail Kirkpatrick as Clara, Noah Woodworth as Fritz, Jenni and Peter Woodworth as Mama and Papa, Flora Albano as Great Grandmother, Evan Tucker as the Nutcracker Prince, and Bob Dooly as Drosselmeyer. Featured dancers include Bryony Bowman as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Brandon McCowan as the Cavalier, Sarah Shepherd as the Snow Queen, and Laura Perkins as the Rat Queen. Talented performers of all ages round out the nearly 100-person cast.

On Sunday, December 10 at 1:00 PM, renowned pianist Dr. Alexander Tutunov will appear as Nutcracker composer P.I. Tchaikovsky to give an entertaining and informative pre-show talk about the composer’s life, as well as perform excerpts from the ballet on piano. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear history come alive through the hands of a musician described as “one of the most gifted pianists to emerge from the former Soviet Union” (Joseph Banowetz, pianist) and “unquestionably one of Russia’s top-level performers” (Paul Freeman, conductor). Tickets for this one-time special event are $10, and are purchased in addition to The Nutcracker Ballet performance tickets.
